# Guerlain - Mitsouko

If, of all fragrances, I could only wear one, I would choose *Mitsouko*. This century-old fragrance exhibits an aura of ineffable, mysterious depth: more than just a fruity chypre, it is an olfactory adventure that presents itself to the attentive nose. It is not crowd-pleasing like Dior's *Sauvage*, nor succulent like L'Artisan Parfumeur's *[[L'Artisan Parfumeur - Mûre et Musc Extrême|Mûre et Musc Extrême]]*, but rather… bewitching. When I smell it on my skin, I hear an "invitation au voyage" and Baudelaire's famous lines come to mind, "Là, tout n'est qu'ordre et beauté, / Luxe, calme et volupté."
After an hour of wearing it, comparing it to *[[Guerlain - Insolence|Insolence]]* on my left wrist, I was surprised to prefer the latter. However, the more the hours go by, the more Guerlain's genius is revealed: *Insolence* inevitably weakens, while I can't get enough of *Mitsouko*. My eyes reflexively close as soon as I inhale its aroma, as if my body instinctively understands how to best appreciate its divine nature. In contrast to the sometimes flashy fragrances of the big brands, this one does not impose itself to the passer-by; on the other hand, a curious and observant nose will easily detect a magnificent treasure to be savoured without moderation. *Mitsouko* is a classic that will survive for centuries to come.
*With a picture: a legendary geisha with irresistible charm.*
