# A chain is only as strong as its weakest link
A system which relies on a single vital point is as weak as this particular point. That can be applied to everything, from war, to cybersecurity, to supply chains. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated this as the world became dependent on a few firms for vaccine supply.
Pfizer took advantage of this crisis to both improve its image and make tremendous profits. It outdid the competition thanks to its robust production chain, which allowed it to secure juicy deals with many countries. African states whose Pfizer orders were delayed, perhaps on purpose, could do little more than impatiently wait.
