# EU-watching is like astrology [[2021-09|September 2021]]. Celestial bodies are to astrologers what elections in the EU are to "eurologers", those who observe the union's political landscape to predict its evolution. Contrary to popular belief, the EU does not have too little democracy: it has *too much* of it. Eurocrats in Brussels often have to wait for the results of an upcoming election to discuss important issues. All eyes are now glued to Germany's quest to replace Angela Merkel, trying to discern which coalition will prevail. Like with horoscopes, forecasters can read different omens in the EU's circumstances: some see potential for much-needed reform, others dread the threatening far-right.
