# In habit building, every action counts
For life-long habits (see [[Habit-forming cycle]]), such as eating healthily, you should not limit yourself to a daily check: instead, every time you eat junk food should count as a failure, and every time you eat healthy food should count as a success. **==Do not see it as a draconian regimen; it is about self-forgiveness.==** You know that you may fail once, but you will strive to improve, and every decision has the potential to be either a minor setback, or a stepping stone towards your goal. You alone have the power to decide which it will be. It is fundamentally an exercise in mindfulness.
