# Iran and the US should find a compromise

The recent victory of the taliban in Afghanistan gave Iran ground to apply pressure on the US in order to extract concessions about its nuclear program. However, the West is certainly not keen on the idea, and may yet impose harsher economic sanctions on Iran in retaliation.
This is a real prisoner's dilemma: if both countries escalate the conflict, it might end in an all-out war that is undesirable for everyone. However, neither country wants the other to benefit too much from an agreement. And yet, the more time elapses, the more a compromise will be needed, since other pressing issues will need global cooperation. Climate change, for instance…
