# Living more slowly makes your life seem richer
If you often get the impression that your life is empty, it may be because you are usually exposed to too many stimuli. Smartphones and the Internet are mainly to blame (see [[The Internet is addictive]]): if you fill every void in your schedule with social networks and mindless scrolling, you make your brain continuously produce dopamine. However, this increases your dopamine resistance, i.e. you become less sensitive to dopamine signaling (see [[Addiction is caused by dopamine down-regulation]]). Thus, it becomes harder for you to get motivated (see [[Dopamine triggers motivational salience]]) and everything becomes boring to you. A solution is to embrace boredom ([[@riandorisHowControlYour2023|Embrace boredom to increase productivity]]) and practice mindfulness. In the same vein, voluntarily resisting cravings for dopamine spikes (e.g. looking at your phone) will make your life seem more directed and interesting (see [[Practice voluntary discomfort to become more resilient]]).
