# Three me's The idea of the three me's is similar to the [[You are me|Egg metaphor]] in that it fosters compassion. Where it differs, though, is that this compassion is not directed towards others, but towards yourself. The three me's is a mantra of self-love. About the past you, be grateful and forgiving. If you reap the rewards of something you did in the past, give the past you a pat in the back. If you made mistakes and now suffer from its consequences, forgive the past you, and learn from those errors. About the future you, be thoughtful and caring. Consider them as someone who is precious to you and deserves some love. Make them gifts, by paving their way towards a goal or sparing them from harm. Do the chores future you will be too tired to do after that party, or refuse that beer so that future you does not get a hangover. They'll be grateful. About the present you, be mindful and lucid. Feel how your mind and body are holding up: go to work when they are in good shape; have a rest when they need it. Remember to appreciate the present moment. What I like about those life principles is that they embody values I cherish: gratefulness, forgiveness, thoughtfulness, mindfulness… Fundamentally, humanist values. --- ## 📚 References - ryans01.
