# Umineko no Naku Koro ni  [*Umineko no Naku Koro ni*](<https://breezewiki.com/07th-expansion/wiki/Umineko_When_They_Cry_(series)>) (or *Umineko When They Cry* in English) is a Japanese murder mystery visual novel written by Ryukishi07 and developed by 07th Expansion. Its story is divided into eight main episodes: the first four episodes are known as the *Question Arcs* and the other four as *Answer Arcs*. Ryukishi07 has also written [*Higurashi no Naku Koro ni*](<https://breezewiki.com/07th-expansion/wiki/Higurashi_When_They_Cry_(series)>), which also consists of eight episodes. As of [[2024-12-31]], I have read all of them but the last one, which I keep on postponing for some reason. However, I have to say that it was overall an amazing experience, as Ryukishi07's stories are much deeper and richer than they seem at first glance. *Umineko* is no exception, and I am currently reading it. More specifically, I have just finished the 5th episode, ie, the first answer arc. From what I have gathered from the web, it is a good time to try to solve the series' various mysteries. I am writing this to leave a trace, for myself first, and possibly lend a helping hand to other future readers. I may turn out to be completely off the mark but a second opinion never hurts.
