# You do not get to do what a natural gets to do
![[Quotes MOC#^b700ed]]
In [[Hard work is everything]], I talked about my time in *prépa* and how those years were my most productive ever. And yet, among us, there were some aliens who seemed not to need to work much and could still ace the tests. One of them was quite known for spending much of his time in the *antre* (a French word for "den") to play "Super Smash Bros. Brawl". Then, when I got into my engineering school, I met even more of them, who could understand in minutes what took me hours to process.
We all have to make different sacrifices to achieve something. Some — the "naturals" — are more gifted than others, whether it be by their genes, their education, or a product of both.
The key is to realize that *you do not get to do what a natural gets to do*.
John and you spent the weekend playing video games, but he aced the test, while you failed it? Then, drop video games and study.
James and you eat pizzas everyday, but he has a six-pack, while you look like you are pregnant? Then, stop eating junk food and go to the gym.
Bob and you like to have a drink during the week, but he can work fine the day after, while you have a hangover? Then, stop drinking alcohol and stay sober.
"But that's unfair!" you might say.
Yes, life is unfair.
"But you are supposed to have fun and relax too!"
No, you are not.
Successful people are allowed to relax. Unsuccessful people — those who have yet to achieve anything, do not own a home, have a job they hate, and are unhappy with where they are — should put up with reality and work on improving their lives.
Successful people are able to delay gratification. If you are unsuccessful, it is usually because you are not able to do the same. As a consequence, completely eliminating useless hobbies — gaming, porn, TV shows, drugs, gambling, drinking, social networks… — *will* help you (see [[Addiction is caused by dopamine down-regulation]]). You must have enough self-awareness to know that you do not deserve it until you have achieved your goals.
